Executive Coaching FAQ

This executive coaching FAQ answers the questions people ask me before they start. In short: coaching begins with a free 30-minute discovery call, sessions usually run weekly or bi-weekly, we meet in person in Manama or online, in Arabic or English, everything is confidential, and fees depend on the scope of the engagement and are discussed after the discovery call. Employers can sponsor coaching under a clear three-way agreement.

The questions are grouped by topic. Where a question deserves a fuller explanation, I link to a dedicated answer.

If your question is not here, ask it on the discovery call. There is no obligation and no sales pitch.

Getting started: every engagement begins with a free discovery call

How do I start? Book a free 30-minute discovery call through the contact page. We talk about what is happening for you, what you want to change and whether coaching is the right support.

What happens on the discovery call? You tell me where you are and where you want to be, and I explain how I work. You are deciding whether you trust me as much as I am understanding your situation. My guide to what a coaching discovery call is covers what to expect.

Who do you coach? Ambitious professionals, middle managers, senior leaders, executives and business owners across Bahrain and the GCC, plus leadership teams. You do not need to be in crisis: coaching is as much for leaders who are doing well and want to grow.

Format and rhythm: usually weekly or bi-weekly, never a fixed package

How often do we meet? Sessions usually run weekly or bi-weekly. Weekly suits a demanding transition; bi-weekly gives you more time to practise between sessions. Read more on how often executive coaching sessions run.

How long does coaching last? Every engagement is personalised, but meaningful change usually happens over several months, as new behaviours are practised and embedded. There is no standard package.

What happens in a session? You bring what matters most that week, and I ask questions that help you think it through, spot blind spots and decide your next step. The typical executive coaching session follows a clear shape.

Location and language: Manama or online, in Arabic or English

Do you coach in person or online? Both. I coach in person in Manama and online for clients across Bahrain and the GCC. You can also mix the two. Online executive coaching follows the same structure and the same confidentiality as meeting in person.

Which languages do you coach in? Arabic and English. You can switch between them in the same session.

Can sessions fit around Ramadan or travel? Yes. We agree session times that fit your working week, including Ramadan working hours and business travel.

Confidentiality: what you say stays between us

Is everything confidential? Yes. Strict confidentiality is fundamental to every coaching relationship, including when your employer pays. The only limits are those in the ICF Code of Ethics, such as a legal requirement or a serious risk of harm, and I explain them before we begin.

Will my manager know what we discuss? No. If your organisation sponsors the coaching, it may know that coaching is happening and the agreed goals, never the content. The full detail is in coaching confidentiality and ethics.

Fees depend on scope and are discussed after the discovery call

How much does executive coaching cost? I do not publish fees, because every engagement is personalised. The fee depends on the scope: one-to-one or team, the number and rhythm of sessions, and whether assessments or workshops are involved. We discuss it after the free discovery call, once we both know what the work involves.

Is it worth the investment? That depends on what you want to change and how committed you are. My answer to is executive coaching worth it? sets out how to judge it.

Employer sponsorship: companies can fund coaching under a three-way agreement

Can my company pay for my coaching? Often, yes. Many organisations fund coaching as part of leadership development. We agree the goals and what is reported at the start, in a three-way conversation with your sponsor. Read can my company sponsor my coaching? for how to raise it.

Do you work with whole teams? Yes. Team programmes run in person or virtually and are tailored to the team. They can include leadership assessments, facilitated coaching sessions, workshops, team reflection, behavioural tools, action planning and follow-up coaching. See team coaching.

My approach: coaching asks questions rather than giving answers

Will you tell me what to do? No. Your choices stay your own. I help you ask better questions, see your blind spots and strengthen your own judgement. Here is why executive coaches rarely give advice.

Is coaching the same as therapy? No. Coaching works with performance, thinking habits and behaviour. It is not therapy or medical treatment. If you are struggling with your mental health, please speak to a doctor or a licensed mental health professional; coaching can sit alongside that care.

Frequently asked questions

Is the discovery call really free, with no obligation?

Yes. The 30-minute discovery call is free and carries no obligation to continue. Its purpose is for both of us to decide whether coaching, and working together, is the right fit.

Do I need to prepare anything before my first session?

Nothing formal. It helps to think about what you want to be different in six months and what is getting in the way. My guide on what to talk about in coaching has prompts if you are unsure.

How will I know if the coaching is working?

We agree what success looks like at the start and review it as we go, looking at what you are doing differently and how others respond. These signs that coaching is working are a useful check.

What are your coaching credentials?

I am an ICF PCC (Professional Certified Coach) with 26+ years in leadership, HR and talent development and 4,500+ coaching hours. My full list of certifications is on my ICF PCC executive coach credentials page.

Should I choose one-to-one or team coaching?

One-to-one coaching focuses on your own leadership; team coaching works on how a group performs together. If the challenge sits in the team's dynamics rather than in one person, team coaching is usually the better start. We can decide on the discovery call.
