NLP Coaching
NLP coaching uses tools from Neuro-Linguistic Programming to help you notice how your language, inner dialogue and emotional state shape your behaviour, and then choose differently. I am an NLP Master Practitioner and an ICF Professional Certified Coach, so I use NLP inside a coaching relationship rather than as a set of tricks. It suits leaders who want practical tools for pressure, communication and stuck patterns.

NLP has a mixed reputation, and some of it is earned. It has been sold as instant transformation and as persuasion techniques, and those claims do it no favours.
I use NLP more modestly: as a practical lens on how people think, feel and communicate, alongside executive coaching and mental fitness. This page explains what NLP coaching looks like with me, and what it is not.
NLP coaching works with the link between words, state and action
The core idea of NLP is that the way you describe an experience to yourself influences how you feel about it, and how you feel influences what you do. Change the description and the state, and different actions become available.
In practice, NLP coaching pays close attention to four things.
- Your language: the words you use about yourself, your team and your situation, including the absolutes such as always, never and nobody.
- Your state: the emotional and physical condition you are in when you walk into an important moment.
- Your perspective: whether you can see a situation from another person’s position, not only your own.
- Your outcome: how clearly you can describe what you want, in terms you can act on.
The NLP tools I use most with leaders
NLP contains many techniques. These are the ones I find most useful in leadership coaching, and each is used only when it serves the goal you have set.
| Tool | What it helps you do |
|---|---|
| Reframing | Find another meaning in a situation that feels fixed; see reframing |
| Perceptual positions | Step into the view of a colleague, then an observer, before a difficult conversation |
| Precision questions | Turn vague statements like “nobody listens to me” into something specific enough to change |
| Well-formed outcomes | Define a goal in positive, concrete terms that are within your control |
| State management | Recall and rehearse a resourceful state before a presentation or negotiation |
| Noticing limiting language | Catch the phrases that reveal a belief holding you back |
What NLP coaching is not
NLP coaching is not therapy or medical treatment. It works with performance, thinking habits and behaviour. If you are struggling with anxiety, low mood, trauma or another mental health difficulty, please speak to a doctor or a licensed mental health professional; coaching can sit alongside that care but does not replace it.
It is also not hypnosis, mind-reading or a way to manipulate others. And it is not a single-session fix for long-standing patterns. Evidence for some popular NLP claims is weak, which is why I use the tools as coaching techniques to be judged by whether they help you. For a balanced view, read does NLP coaching work.
NLP is one part of a wider coaching approach
I rarely run sessions that are only NLP. A typical engagement combines executive coaching, systemic thinking and mental fitness, with NLP tools used where they fit. Sessions are usually weekly or every two weeks, one to one, in person in Manama or online.
NLP is particularly useful for work on beliefs, because language so often gives a belief away. If that is your focus, limiting beliefs coaching explains how we approach it.
A first session: we listen to how you describe the problem
In a first NLP coaching session I ask you to describe a situation you want to change, and I listen as much to how you describe it as to what you describe. Where is the energy in your words? What do you say is impossible? Whose voice does that sentence sound like?
Usually we try one tool in the session itself, such as stepping into another person’s perspective, so you can judge for yourself whether this way of working suits you. I won’t tell you what to think. NLP simply gives us more precise questions.
Language matters twice when you lead in Arabic and English
Many leaders in the Gulf think in one language and lead in another. A sentence that sounds firm in English can feel harsh in Arabic, and a polite phrase in Arabic can sound uncertain when translated. NLP coaching makes those differences visible.
I coach in both languages, and we can move between them in a session. That is especially valuable for leaders of multicultural teams and for anyone working on leadership communication coaching goals.
Frequently asked questions
Is NLP scientifically proven?
Some popular NLP claims have not held up well, and I do not rely on them. I use specific NLP tools as practical coaching techniques, and we judge them by whether they help you think and act differently in your real situation.
Will you use hypnosis in NLP coaching?
No. NLP coaching with me is a conversation. You stay fully in control throughout, and any exercise is explained and agreed before we try it.
Can NLP help with nerves before a big presentation?
Often, yes. State management and rehearsal tools can help with performance nerves. If the fear is severe or affects your daily life, please speak to a doctor or licensed professional, and coaching can work alongside that support.
Do I need to learn NLP or read about it first?
No. You do not need any background in NLP. I explain each tool in plain language when we use it, and many clients never need the technical names.
Can I use NLP to influence people at work?
NLP can make you a more precise listener and a clearer communicator, and that does increase influence. I do not teach it as a way to manipulate people. Influence that relies on technique rather than trust does not last.
Is NLP coaching only about mindset, or about work situations too?
Both. We always start from real situations at work, such as a meeting, a relationship or a decision, and use NLP to change how you approach them. The mindset work serves the practical result.
